What to negotiate

  • If your effective hourly rate during call is below $10/hr, you're being significantly undercompensated.
  • In-house call should pay 3-5x beeper rates — you can't sleep, leave, or live your life.
  • Callback minimums matter: 2-hour minimum per callback is standard. 1-hour is below market.
  • Holiday call should carry a 1.5-2x multiplier. If yours doesn't, negotiate it.
